Elderberry tea has been traditionally used as a natural remedy for cold and flu symptoms, working as an all natural immune booster.

The elderberry fruit contains compounds called anthocyanins, which have been shown to have antiviral properties and may help reduce the severity and duration of flu symptoms.

Nutritional Value: Elderberries are a rich source of antioxidants, including anthocyanins and flavonols, which can help boost the immune system, reduce inflammation, and protect against oxidative damage. They are also high in vitamin C, fiber, and phenolic acids. Hibiscus flowers are also a great source of antioxidants and vitamin C, and have been shown to help lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

A 2019 study published in the Journal of Functional Foods found that elderberry extract reduced the duration and severity of cold and flu symptoms in adults. The study participants who took elderberry extract had significant improvements in symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle aches, and congestion.

Drinking elderberry tea may also help boost the immune system, which can help the body fight off viral infections like the flu. Elderberries contain high levels of vitamin C, which is an important nutrient for immune function. Additionally, the flavonoids in elderberries may help stimulate the production of cytokines, which are signaling molecules that play a key role in immune function.

While elderberry tea can be a beneficial addition to your flu-fighting toolkit, it’s important to note that it should not be used as a substitute for medical treatment. If you’re experiencing flu-like symptoms, it’s important to see a healthcare provider to determine the best course of treatment for your individual needs.
